As a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, Gobeil's Furniture Galleries is entering a new business phase by introducing Gobeil's Green Living. The new product lines related to this venture use wood from replenished domestic forests, natural fiber fabrics like cotton and linen (some organic), and eco-friendly cushion cores. Processes used in manufacturing focus on biodegradability, the use of plant-based raw materials and organic fire retardants, and a reduction in petroleum-based materials. Companies whose products we feature include Rowe Furniture and Classic Concepts, and they practice a similar business philosophy in recycling efforts, reduction of methanol emissions and the use of natural-based products whenever possible throughout the manufacturing venue. This thinking includes cultivating appreciation for antiques and an end product of such high quality that it may one day become an antique.
Gobeil's offers an opportunity for you to give your old furniture to people in need. This use of older furniture is earth-friendly in reduction of landfill bulk. When your new furniture is delivered, we will pick up those items you no longer want and distribute them in our furniture donation program. Through word of mouth, local social service agencies and church organizations, this program has helped hundreds of people in critical life circumstances because of fire, domestic violence, divorce or other struggles. Our substantial recycling program won the 2008 ecomaine eco-Excellence award in our town for its efficacy. In our earliest moves to work for environmental sustainability, we began recycling paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, bottles and cans, and wood in an effort to do our part to show respect for our planet's resources. We are continuing our lighting campaign, using state–of-the-art, energy-efficient bulbs, thereby reducing our electrical lighting consumption by more than a third.
